Birthday Bubbles
Happy birthday to Bubbles (right)! Tonight we celebrate at Anthony's Pier Four, along with all the golden anniversary couples from Revere and Saugus. Since Julia (left), one of Bubbles' idols, couldn't make it, we will bring this photograph for the wall of stars.
Bubbles and Donna Puma are spending the afternoon getting salted, waxed, tanned, and manicured. I will get by with a shower and false eyelashes - I got my stories to watch!
Last night the Greyhound and I attended the "Lost Songs of Lennon and McCartney" show, featuring Kate Pierson, Graham Parker, and Bill Janovitz. It was mighty fresh, kids, and check your local calendar for upcoming appearances! Just be prepared to share space with stocky Beatles fans in bulky sweaters who don't have a whole lot of crowd manners.
Lovely Kate warbled and banged a red tambourine that matched her flowing red top; she busted out the B-52s dance moves only when Parker requested the sound guy to play the original version of the song they were about to sing ("Hey Little Girl"? I forget), which was by Tommy Quickly, a name that Parker enjoyed saying very much. G Parker looked tough and wiry all in black, and Bill Janovitz gave a very soulful performance in his proto-Boston-band outfit of drip-dry short-sleeved shirt and wristwatch.
Describing music is beyond my expertise and boring besides, so I'll just repeat that it was mighty fresh, and I'm still trying to figure out what made it sound so 1979 Rumour-ish.
A heartfelt RIP to lovely June Carter Cash. If there's a rock and roll heaven, she'll be dancing on a pony keg.
