Rocque the Voat

Today is Election Day, and as soon as my hair is a little less wet, I'm heading out to cast my vote to bring back rent control. Also there's a nice lady running for city council who, according to her pamphlet, "wears the hijab, a head covering that many Muslim women wear, in solidarity with Muslims targeted by hate crimes and racial profiling." So is she a Muslim herself or not? The only clue is the photo below this text, which shows her in a hijab and a fleece jacket zipped to the chin, with a cellphone clamped to her face, as if to say, "I'm modern!"

Which is not to say I'm voting for her. I'm not telling.

The big event this weekend was Donna Puma and Giuliano's news: They are engaged! The co-spouses elect are very happy, and your humble correspondant burst into happy tears at the news, prompting the nice bartender at the Harvest to buy us all champagne.

Also a bar ramble with the Greyhound and the Art Historian, which took us to one restaurant with the silliest, most over-designed bathrooms ever, and a waitress we all felt sorry for, who looked like Reese Witherspoon but was trying so hard to be very swanky and understated when you know she's a special-ed major from northern New Hampshire. We had our last drink at the very comfy place where the busts of Jefferson and Madison et al gaze down upon you with boozy benevolence.

Also the Mad Dash, where we all got some art we liked. Details later. Gotta scoot.
