beulahbondo's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prima gets her D on; Secunda loves Peter Pan After my dad was discharged from the hospital (the benchmark for his post-surgical care was passing gas, which he did like a champ), I went home with sister for the rest of the weekend. The nieces, as usual, were fascinating and loveable and I'm going to regale you with some stories now. Prima had a very busy weekend. We all went to the coffeehouse to hear some acoustic music on Saturday night, and she has been going there for music and hot chocolate since she was 4, so she loves it. On Sunday morning she and Johnny Toboggan and I went to their church, where Johnny sang accompanied by the men's choir, and Prima fetched her pencil from where she always keeps it in the bible rack (is that what it's called?) and drew pictures of my apartment. That afternoon she got to relax a bit and watch some Fat Albert before her basketball game. Those girls play HARD. The one fourth grader on the team, the point guard, intercepts passes like she's breaking a soap bubble. Prima runs like a pony and is a fierce guarder. The coaches yell, "Find your girl. Stay with your girl," and that's good advice for all of us. On Sunday night Prima got to watch "Napoleon Dynamite" on HBO. She loves the teen underdog stories and was absolutely wrapped up in this one. The next morning she put her hair in a side ponytail like Deb and walked around with a photograph asking all of us, "Do you want to look like this?" But the main theme of the weekend was "Peter Pan." Secunda especially is obsessed. She loves to discuss the differences between the Disney version and "the on-demand version" -- the 2003 live-action one, which is very beautiful and very very pre-sexual, with lots of puppy love between Wendy and P.P. Secunda loves Michael and John the most, and we had to do many recitals of "John, who's your father?" "Peter." "Michael, who's your mother?" "You are, Wendy." Other reasons why I love Secunda: The mystery of the weekend, still unsolved: Who put the shmutz around Paul's mouth on Prima's Beatles poster? She claims ignorance, but there was an eyeshadow compact on her nightstand... 9:18 a.m. - 2006-02-09 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
